Lydia’s Wish

Porter’s Office Products is proud to sponsor the Make-A-Wish Foundation® for 2014.

“The Make-A-Wish Foundation® traces its beginning to one boy’s wish to be a Police Officer, and to date, more than 170,000 wishes have been granted to children with life-threatening medical conditions in the United States and its territories.”

Porter’s is now sponsoring a new child that needs our help and love.

Meet Lydia!

Her wish is to go to Shakespeare Playhouse “The Globe” in London!!

She is a 16 year old from Pocatello, and she is battling Macrophage Activation Syndrome (MAS) which is a potentially life-threatening complication of the systemic onset juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (Still’s Disease) that she has had since she was seven years old.Lydia has always enjoyed baking, cooking, and shopping.  When she was 13 years old she started her own baking business called, “The Little Baker”.  She would bake muffins, cupcakes, cookies, cinnamon rolls, lemon bars, and brownies each week of the summer and sell them at her father’s fresh produce Farmer’s Market stand on Saturday mornings.

Recently, she began supplying the Mystique Theater with fresh caramel apples for their shows.  She has been home schooled for the past six years and is currently finishing her 11th grade year.  Following graduation she would like to pursue a degree in law with the eventual goal of serving in an area of politics.

Lydia is currently doing well.  Her medication was changed once again.  She is now receiving an injection which is administered by a nurse only once a month.  She also takes an additional medication for the MAS.  So far, her body receives it well, and her blood work has been encouraging.  Lydia and her five siblings have suffered another trial recently with the passing of their father.  February 21, 2014, he was involved in a snowmobiling accident.  The circumstances surrounding her and her family have been challenging.  Lydia’s doctors have been a tremendous help and encouragement in helping with her new diagnosis and treatments as Lydia’s father mostly handled the details with Lydia’s condition and treatments.

You can help grant a wish to a local child in your community.  There are many ways to ensure the continued mission of granting wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions.”

Did you know nearly half the Wishes granted in Idaho are from Southeast Idaho – Pocatello, Idaho Falls, Rexburg, etc.  But, only 3-4% of the funding comes from that part of the state!
