Baylee’s Wish | Make-A-Wish Idaho

In 2016, Porter’s granted Baylee’s Wish.

Thirteen-year-old Baylee is battling Rett syndrome, which is a mutation of the mecp2 gene on the x chromosome. It is like having Parkinson’s, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, and autism all in one little girl. But as her mom says “Baylee has Rett syndrome, but Rett syndrome is not Baylee!” She is still very happy and brings joy to everyone she meets.

Baylee enjoys books, music, camping and four-wheeling. Most of all she loves spending time with her parents, two brothers, and three sisters which is why she wished to GO to Disney World on a family vacation to meet Minnie Mouse!

Baylee’s wish experience began when her wish granting volunteers arrived at the family’s home with Minnie ears and balloons for Baylee. Their excitement for Baylee to choose a wish was spread across the entire family. The wish granters then set up a fun night to announce to Baylee that her wish had been granted! They started the family’s journey off with such excitement and true joy for the wish that was ahead for Baylee.

During the wish trip, every day was a new and exciting day for Baylee. Her eyes lit up every time she saw a character, and she was beyond excited to see Minnie Mouse – ‘Minnie’ is one of the few words Baylee can say (most girls with Rett syndrome do not have words).

“Not knowing how much time we have with Little Miss Baylee, it was a blessing to have a once in a lifetime vacation with her siblings and parents just being together, laughing, smiling, and of course a few screams; as Baylee says, a lot of ‘OOOOO’s’,” said Baylee’s mom. Every time Baylee hears mention of the characters she met during her wish, she is all smiles, and she always enjoys looking back at all the pictures taken throughout the trip.

Make-A-Wish Idaho’s mission is to grant life-changing wishes to children with critical illnesses. A wish is not a last wish. It is a lasting wish. Make-A-Wish Idaho serves children throughout the state with offices in Boise and Pocatello. Did you know nearly half the Wishes granted in Idaho are from Southeast Idaho – Pocatello, Idaho Falls, Rexburg, etc. But, only 3-4% of the funding comes from that part of the state!
